For Cave Dwellers only...
For Cave Dwellers only...
...Bar...
...Bar...
...God...
...You...
"The neighbourhood bar is possibly the best counterfeit there is to the fellowship Christ wants to give His church. It's an imitation, dispensing liquor instead of grace, escape rather than reality, but it is permissive, accepting and inclusive fellowship. It is unshockable. It is democratic. You can tell people secrets and they usually don't tell other or even want to. The bar flourishes not because most people are alcholics, but because God has put into the human heart the desire to know and be known, to love and be loved, and so many seek a counterfeit at the price of a few beers. "
With all my heart I believe that Christ wants His church to be... a fellowship where people can come in and say, "I'm sunk!""I'm beat!" "I've had it!"
Where do you turn when the bottom drops out of your life? Or when you face an issue that is embarrassing...even scandalous...
" You just discovered your son is a practising homosexual. Where do you go? Your mate is talking separation or divorce. Your daughter has runaway for the fourth time... and this time you're afraid she is pregnant. How about when you've lost your job and it is your fault. Or, fiancially, you have blown it. Where do you go when your parent is an alcholic? Or you find out your wife's having an affair? Where do you turn when you flunk your entrance exam or you mess up the interview? Who do you turn to when you're tossed into jail because you broke the law? "
- Charles R.Swindoll
You need a shelter, a listener. Someone who understands. You need a cave to duck into. Cornered, bruised by adversity, struggling with discouragement and despair, David wrote:
Psalm 31: 1: " In Thee, O Lord, I have taken refuge."
