Heres an interesting article that i read in The New Paper regarding the Govt Pay Debate:
"I agree... that the salary increase for ministers is a sensitive and emotional issue... i hear a lot... about whether can we adopt a more idealistic approach - go for people who are prepared to sacrifice everything to come in to serve... I think there are people with good brains, there people with good hearts, but we don't have enough... becuase if there are enough, then how do we explain that there are so many bad governments in this world?" - Union Chief Lim Swee Say
As such, there is a practical element involved in this pay increment that hopes to secure more efficient politians in the ever challenging arena of governance. And this increment hopefully will retain and usher in more "less-encouraged" politicians into the government and at the time, to further encourage those "more-encouraged" politicians to continue their battle in the battle field of governance.
Yeah.. quite good sia the article.. any opinions on this debate anyone?
